“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”
-Dr. Maria Montessori

School starts on Monday, August 17th!  Sterling Montessori receives full state funding for a student ONLY if the student is present during the first TEN days of school.  Teachers will be taking attendance each morning in class Morning Meetings.  Depending on classroom plans, your student will need to be present for the morning session or you will need to email the teacher daily by 9:00 am stating that the student is present for the day.  For the first ten days, Sterling will reach out to parents of students or parents we do not hear from. Please see our Attendance Policy for more details.

It’s been wonderful to see our teachers, hear them planning new and exciting ways to engage our Sterling students and collaborate with each other on the best ways to approach Distance Learning.  Each and every one is so looking forward to “seeing” your children next week!

Saying Goodbye and Best Wishes...

Sadly, our long-term and beloved art teacher, Ruth Vienneau, will not be returning to Sterling this school year.  She has accepted a position at another school.  Ruth has been a contributing member of the Sterling faculty for over 10 years and we have so appreciated her enthusiasm, her amazing art lessons and her dedication to our students.  We wish her the best as she starts at her new school. We will continue to provide art resources and support for Specials from our Art Assistant, Samantha Falcoz-Vigne.

Also, Anna Menasian was hired by the original founders of Sterling and has worked serving staff and students for the past 30 years. She will be greatly missed by all and remembered for the longest serving employee at Sterling thus far.

Your Generosity is GROWING!Your Generosity is GROWING!

Thank you to all who have generously contributed to our Treasure Chest this past week.  We so appreciate your commitment and dedication to our school.  If you haven’t already done so, please consider a donation in your name - no donation is too small!  COVID-19 has had an impact on us all, and charter schools continue to need additional funding (A Case for Support for Charter Schools).

Remember, too, that Sterling participates in AmazonSmile and iGive as well!  More information is available on our website.  If you have any questions, please contact our development office!

Interior is Taking Shape!

In anticipation of when ALL students return, our Facilities Manager, Todd Fisher, and team, have worked hard all summer to enhance our surroundings.  To list a few improvements, along with new coats of paint, A-Building has new cubbies to replace those that were 20-years of.  We have new Montessori wood furniture and beautiful culturally-diverse artwork for LE and UE classes.  We can’t wait for everyone to see!

PFA (Parent Faculty Association)

Like many of you, we are excited, and also a bit unsure of what to expect.  This year is unlike any other and we want to make sure students and families use this next week to practice the transition and goals for Plan C.  Meanwhile, we will be hosting a VIRTUAL WELCOME MEETING, sponsored by the PFA on Friday, August 21st at 5pm.  We will send an invite next week. This virtual event is designed as an introduction for families new to Sterling, but is certainly open to all community members and will be an opportunity to meet administrators, board members, PFA chairs and learn more about our school.    Also, please take a moment to fill out this short survey on PFA participation.  Your input is wanted and valued!

Sterling Faculty Spotlight!

Elaine.JPGElaine Mongno

Elaine!  Elaine is the Office Manager and the friendliest face (whether masked or not) to greet our community and help in virtually any way.  She knows every student by name and by heart.  Elaine can be found in our Main Office, or on the other end of the phone should you give us a call.

A message from Elaine, "I know this is a difficult time for our students and families.  Please know we are all struggling as well and cant wait for things to return to "normal" and for our campus to be filled with your smiles, laughter and warmth. Keep in mind, "this too shall pass" and in the meantime lets all try and spread our sunshine and be helpful and compassionate to one another in true Sterling Montessori fashion! Sending virtual hugs from the Main Office!"
