“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”
-Dr. Maria Montessori

Students, faculty and families have successfully completed the first two weeks of school.  What a great accomplishment!  We have all learned a lot and, through grace and courtesy, continue to collaborate on best practices and approaches.  This coming week, look for communication on adjustments to classroom schedules.

We understand that virtual learning can be tough getting used to.  Our teachers definitely want to maintain a connection with each and every Sterling student both in the mornings and during afternoon sessions.  This is a gentle reminder that attendance is still very important to maintain that connection, so please encourage your students to meet on schedule.  Thank you!

We have created a few different ways for your child to participate in Specials should you want them to engage with these content areas outside of regular school hours.  Every week your child will be able to participate in one of the following ways:

  • Attend one of the live sessions
  • View and complete lessons on the learning platform being used (Google Classroom or SeeSaw)

  • MUSIC & PE classes will be available for all kindergarten through 8th grade: while there may be 2 different classes on some schedules, students only need to choose one class to attend.
  • ELEMENTARY CHORUS will be for any 4th grade through 6th grade students who are interested.
  • STERLING STARS will be for 7th and 8th grade students who have tried out for the program.
  • BAND classes will be available for 5th grade through 8th grade students who were  in band during the 2019-2020 school year.
  • SPANISH RESOURCES will be available for 3rd graders using Duolingo: students will receive instructions to create their Duolingo accounts at home. The Spanish teacher, Sonia, will join students during their class meeting every two weeks to answer questions and discuss progress. There will be no live lessons.
  • SPANISH CLASSES will be available for all 4th and 5th Grade: while there may be 2 different classes on some schedules, students only need to choose one class to attend. Students should work on Duolingo 2xs a week with a recommendation of 20 minutes each time. All information including Zoom links, schedules, and assignments can be found on Google Classroom.
  • EXPLORATORY SPANISH for 6th graders will meet with Ms. Laura 1x a week.
  • HIGH SCHOOL SPANISH I is available for 6th graders and those 7th and 8th graders who were in the program during the 2019-2020 school year. Sixth (6th) graders in Spanish I will meet with Laura 2xs a week for direct instruction, oral practice and written works. MS students in Spanish I will meet with Laura 3xs a week for direct instruction, oral practice, and written works.  All information including Zoom links, schedules, and assignments can be found on Google Classroom.

We would love to see what our Sterling Gems are doing at home during Virtual Learning!  Do you have an awesome school setup?  Is your student starting work on a masterpiece or interesting project? Calling all families to send us your photos and share the fun while students are interacting with teachers and friends virtually.  Pictures can be sent to communications@sterlingmontessori.org. We’ll continue to enjoy photo submissions through Plan C. Please note that these pictures may be used on social media or in communications to Sterling Families.

While our K-8th grade students are under Plan C and working virtually, we do have spots currently available in our Academy (Pk3/Pk4) classes.  And now, we are WAIVING THE APPLICATION FEE and offering a REFERRAL INCENTIVE or any Sterling family or staff member who refers a family who enrolls their child to the Academy: $100/per student referral!

Be sure to check out our CHILDREN’S HOUSE VIRTUAL TOUR now available on Sterling’s website!
