“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment”

LE Presentation - Developing the Independent Child

UE Presentation - Supporting the Home Learner

Retakes for Individual Pictures (Students & Staff) will be on Thursday, November 12th.  If your student was absent for the previous Individual Picture Days or is in need of retakes, please plan to have this done on this day. If a portrait package was purchased & a retake is requested, this picture package must be given to the photographer on 11/12 for the retake. It is very helpful for the Retake photograph to receive a note with the picture package explaining what changes are needed. Lifetouch will provide a reservation system for November 12th for retakes by next week.  We will let you know as soon as we receive it.

Individual Portrait Packages and Proofs are coming!! These orders and proofs will be arriving to Sterling very soon. Sterling will be organizing a time for pick-up. If you would like to still order a package, please follow the instructions given with your student’s proof. These orders will include a shipping cost and be sent to your home. Remember Sterling receives 50% of all Individual Portrait package orders. If there are any issues with any orders, please email Laura Chintapalli, laura.chintapalli@gmail.com, who will contact our Lifetouch representative to help correct the order.

Sydney Bullock - LE Assistant Teacher

If asked five years ago whether or not I thought I would be teaching today, the answer would probably be no! Born and raised in Raleigh, I attended a Montessori school from Toddler through Upper Elementary. I went on to receive my Bachelor of Social work and an Art Minor from James Madison University. Following my schooling, I worked for many local nonprofits including the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants and Rise Against Hunger. On my weekends and evenings, I taught painting classes at a local paint & sip. Throughout these wonderful experiences, the common thread was teaching. Whether facilitating trainings for clients, educating large groups about the realities of world hunger, or guiding a group through a beautiful painting, there was joy in teaching through it all. When a position opened up at a local Montessori School, it felt like jumping into a time machine. I enjoyed returning to a Montessori environment with preschoolers and kindergarteners. However, when I began providing weekly art classes for the elementary students, there was something special about working with this age group. When a position opened up at Sterling Montessori in the Lower Elementary Program, I was elated.

It has been a delight to revisit materials that were so prominent in my own education, as well as explore topics from my own background and varied experiences. Further, I've had a blast exploring books with the students, seeing students' pride in their work during our Friday Group Shares and I've enjoyed the time spent getting to know a wonderful group of students here at Sterling! While the current realities may pose new challenges, I am reminded that we are all still connected through our moments of laughter and thoughtful questions and answers each day.
