“As we observe children, we see the vitality of their spirit, the maximum effort put forth in all they do, the intuition, attention and focus they bring to all life’s events, and the sheer joy they experience in living.”
-Dr. Maria Montessor

Here is the test calendar for the 2020-21 school year. For those of you who have had children in the past test at our school, you see this test calendar is very similar. What is different is that we are in Plan C and remote learning for the time being. Because of this, testing is going to be different. For each test listed on the calendar and as the time draws near for the test, I will be given expectations for how that test should be delivered. For example, the WAP-T screener that is normally given at this time of the year changed from an in person screener to a remote screener. The BOG that is normally given to all 3rd grade students on the 11th-15th day of school, won't be given until students are back in school. When I know the expectations of each test and the type of delivery, I will reach out to the families that have children taking that test with that information. At this time, the State does want all of these tests to occur but they will have to monitor what type of learning we are in as a school and what is best for the students. After taking these considerations into account in the Spring, they chose not to do any end of grade testing at the end of the 2019-20 school year.

CDM testing is only for those students who are going through the Credit by Demonstrated Mastery Process.

The ACCESS Test will only be administered to those K-8 students that have been identified by our school as English Learners.

Please note that End of Grade testing will start before Memorial Day this year. EOG testing will begin on Tuesday, May 25. Math and ELA EOG testing will be on May 25 and 26 and the Science EOG will be on Thursday, May 27.

You can go to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction website to find out more about these tests. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns at 462-8889 x430.

Thank You,

Carrie Smith,  Testing Coordinator

DANIELLE LAMBimage10.jpg

Danielle is our School Counselor, celebrating her 4th year at Sterling. In this upended year of Remote Learning, Danielle suggests prioritizing your child’s mental health by:

  • Making sure they are going outside, being active, eating well, and getting plenty of rest.
  • Creating a list with your child of fun offscreen activities they can choose from when they are finished with school
  • Doing emotional check-ins daily with your child
  • Teaching them how to show grace and compassion to themselves and others
  • Most importantly: Prioritize your own mental health and well-being!  Do each of these things yourself and model it for your kids.

Thank you for sharing your photos!
